Nel 1997, Mike Portnoy (Transatlantic, Sons of Apollo, ex-Dream Theater), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) e Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel) si unirono per creare i Liquid Tension Experiment. L'incredibile creatività tra il collettivo avrebbe spinto Petrucci e Portnoy a invitare Rudess a unirsi ai Dream Theater, segnando effettivamente la fine di questo progetto secondario. Da allora, poche riunioni sono state più richieste. Dopo più di 20 anni, questi quattro incredibili musicisti sono tornati insieme in studio ed hanno registrato Liquid Tension Experiment 3, pubblicato il 16 aprile 2021 in formato doppio CD Digipack.
